If any of your assets are sold because of the bankruptcy, the IRS will get paid first. Without knowing the details of your financial situation, I can't say that keeping your home will be impossible. But I would expect it to be difficult, at best, and you'd need a very good, preferably local (San Mateo county) bankruptcy lawyer to pull it off. Bankruptcy isn't magic: it isn't just a matter of signing the papers and watching your debts disappear.
