Under NY law If the 4 original owners held the title to the property as tenants in common then their estate would succeed to their interest in the property. If they had a will the persons named in the will take. If they did not then their heirs at law take. That may be the children they left. On the other hand if the original owners held title as joint tenants, under NY law at their death their interest was extinguished. Their estates get nothing but the survivors get a larger share automatically under the New York law dealing with wills, trusts and probate or real estate.
