Juvenile law attorneys help juveniles when they run into legal problems in education, criminal offense arrests, and social behavior or learning problems. Juvenile law professionals have the experience and training to assist individuals under 18 who are charged with juvenile delinquency, who are suspended or expelled by school officials, or who are accused of committing criminal offenses. These attorneys use their understanding of juvenile law and juvenile legal proceedings to reduce criminal charges, or have them dismissed altogether. They can work with school officials to gain re-admittance or special assistance programs for their clients. They can also represent individuals in juvenile court arraignment, questioning, and trial, as well as work with juvenile courts and prosecutors to obtain alternatives to detention – including reform school, placement in a foster home, or probation.
