What are the consequences of a traffic related bench warrant?

Question Details:I was cited in NV for allegedly running a red light. While I would like to plead not guilty and stand trial I do not have the money to fly back and forth between TX, where I reside, and NV to appear in court. I have been advised to simply walk away but I know that would result in a bench warrant for FTA. I have several questions: 1) If I am pulled over in TX will this warrant appear on the check done by the officer? 2) If a potential employer does a background check, will this warrant appear there? 3) Will I be able to renew my driver license in TX?

The answers are yes, yes and no.

This warrant could turn up for any minor infraction, including jay-walking.  The same holds true for an employment background check.  If does you will be taken into custody.  Whether or not NV goes to the trouble of extraditing you back is another matter. But this problem can then just happen over and over.  Additionally, you will probably not be able not be able to renew your TX license.  This should come up in the system.  By virtue of something known as the "Interstate Driver's License Compact", a state will report to the driver's home state any traffic offense that the driver was involved in.

You need to contact an attorney in NV to help you sort through this.  One thing is for sure, a FTA is nothing to fool around with.  It will come back to haunt you.
