Detective asked for meeting, should I go?

Question Details:Due to my bills I got loans on 2 guitars over the past 2 months at a pawn shop. I had taken both from my job. My intention all along was to return them without being noticed. When I went to get one out I was told they had been reported stolen and taken by police. My question is a detective called and set up a meeting for me with him. Can or would he take me into custody for this right away?

Although I do not practice law in the State of Texas, here are my initial impressions.  Based upon the conduct that you have described, you may be exposed to criminal liability.  The general rule is that if the detective/officer already has probable cause to arrest you, he can do so upon the issue of a warrant at any time.  In any event, it is clear to me that you need to hire an attorney -- AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to begin attempting to resolve this matter as favorably as possible.  You should not make any statements to the police unless you are accompanied by legal representation.  Good luck.
