After a car accident, should I call my insurance company first, my doctor, or a lawyer?

Question Details:I was in my car at the exit ramp waiting for green light. A pickup hit me from behind and pushed me into another pickup in front of me. The gentleman I hit (after being hit myself) went to the hospital. Today, one day after accident, I have tingling in my arms, neck, and lower back as well as both legs. My car will probably be totaled but no visible damage was done to the vehicle that hit me or the vehicle I hit.

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  You need to go to the hospital first and make an appointment with your primary care physician to get an open a treatment plan.  then go see a lawyer to explain what happened.  The lawyer will request the police report and send out letters to the at fault driver's insurance company let it know of the claim.  Your car will likely be evaluated by an adjuster and the insurance company will cut you a  check for the value of the car if in fact it is a total loss.  Your will need to treat with doctors until you are told that you are at a maximum level of medical improvement.  Then the lawyer will be in a position to try to settle your case.
