Question Details:I have a failure to appear on a traffic court date. I never had license but I got pulled over twice first time was about 5 years ago and I went to court for that one; got fines did not pay fines so license was suspended until I paid them. About 3 years or so ago was the secod time I got pulled over but I did not show for court date on that one. Now I have a FTA and fines I am trying to get license I am living in WV now. What do I do to try to correct this problem so that I can get license? I am a college student and single mother of 3. How can this be fixed without jail time?
A case may be reopened and settled by filing a motion to reopen. I suggest that you find out all the different cases that you currently have pending in court. You can do this by calling the clerk of the criminal court and ask for a list of all your court cases regarding traffic tickets. after you have a complete list, you need to file motions to open the cases. This will trigger the court to set you down for a court date. at the court date you need to try to work out a payment resolution to the tickets and explain why you failed to appear in court. After you have settled the cases, you need t make sure the record that these cases are disposed of are sen to the Department of Motor Vehicles to process. You then need to go the the DMV to reinstate your license and pay any necessary fees associated with restoring your license. I suggest that you hire a lawyer to help you here, especially going to court. Most lawyers will meet with you for free.
