I have a judgement against me coming up, and I'd like to know if I can file a bankruptcy afterward?

Question Details:I'm being sued and have decide to settle and take a judgement against me for $10,000. I really don't want to make a payment and rather file bankruptcy instead. Is a bankruptcy trustee going to look at this and say there was "intent" and throw it out because I haven't made a payment or would it be better to make a couple of payments then file the bankruptcy. I'm also trying to do a short sale on my house so would it be better to do the bankruptcy first then the short sale or vise versa. Thanks

I am  a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law.  File for the BK now and do not make any more payments.  The short sale will not affect the BK claim as that is not a debt you are seeking to discharge.  I suggest that you hire a lawyer to be involved in the BK filing to help assist you.
