If you cause a minor car accident, can the other person file a report 2 weeks later?

Question Details:I was backing out of a parking spot and hit another car. He didn't call the police and now has a estimate for $2000 worth of damage and wants me to pay now. Can he call the police and file a report 2 weeks after the accident? He is banging on my door all hours of the night and calling my work and threatening to come up there what do I do?

He should not be banging on your door. Yes, he still can file a report he can get something called a blue form from the police station and file a report. Do you have insurance? If you have insurance and it was your fault give him your information. Once your insurance goes out they will give their own estimate to what ever shop it will be repaired in. If you have photos of the damage send them by autoaccidentinjuryhotline@yahoo.com

The police won't accept a report written by the other driver.  Since this was a minor (non-injury) accident, it is unlikely the police would have come to take a report at the scene of the accident had they been called.

As for the accident, you should report the accident to your insurance company and they will handle the property damage claim.  If you don't have auto insurance and can't afford to pay the cost of the property damage to the other vehicle, if the other driver has uninsured motorist coverage, his insurance will pay for the repairs to his vehicle.

You should also contact the police regarding the harassment from the other driver; banging on your door at all hours of the night, calling your workplace and threatening to come.  Given the other driver's behavior, (if you don't have insurance) you should verify his estimate of repairs by having him mail a written copy to you (preferably to your work address) and then you can call the repair shop to verify the accuracy of the estimate.
