My property owners association is refusing to give me board minutes and financial statements, what can I do except file a lawsuit?

Question Details:My property owners association (raw land planned community) is refusing to give me board minutes and financial statements. It has been over 3 months since I have requested twice. New Mexico attorney general says to find a lawyer. That's easy to say as they all want $3500 minimum in advance. Can this be a small claims case?

Most lawyers do not charge for an initial consultation.  Is you try calling some lawyers and explain the case/problem that you are having and ask if you can come in to discuss whether you should pursue the matter and how to pursue the matter, most of the lawyers should meet with you without charging the first time.  I think that you are entitled to the meeting minutes based on the condo documents.  you should look in the condo bylaws to determine where in the documents it shows that you may obtain the minutes.  I woul also try calling a few lawyers.
