My son was injured in a auto accident and we hired a lawyer who I do not think is working for him can we change lawyers?

Question Details:The lawyer has only spoken with my son over the phone. He tells my son that because he only saw a doctor for 4 months that his injury to his back is not a strong enough case. My son got addicted to pain meds, we took him off everything and he did not go back to the doctor. But he still has pain. He is only 24. This could be life long. The lawyer tells him that the best he can do would be to settle for $6000 that the other guys insurance wants to pay. What can we do?

The lawyer works for you; you may always fire a lawyer whom you do not feel is representing your interests appropriately. Check you contract/retainer agreement first, to see what you may have to pay your attorney in the event you change lawyers (it is fair to pay a reasonable amount for work done to date); if it's excessive, you may need to actually check with another attorney about how you could reduce the amount or show that the lawyer's own breach, by not representing you son effectively, necessitated the change and therefore would justify not paying the full amount.
