What is the penalty for prescription fraud?

Question Details:My husband added a narcotic Vicodin to his blood pressure prescription. We live in WA State and I was wondering what is going to happen. He has never been in trouble with the law he is just in alot of pain from surgeries and he has a hard job. I am trying to get him into treatment. We have been married for 20 years and he is a good person, just in a lot of pain.

Prescription fraud is an extremely serious crime, a Class B felony that carries a maximum prison term of 10 years.  In addition, possession of the medication itself, without a valid prescription, is a drug possession offense, the severity depending on the amount.  It's rare that a person is sentenced separately on both charges, even if they go to trial, as are maximum sentences.  But if your husband is caught, there is a very serious risk of some significant jail time here.

I wish you the very best of luck at finding a treatment program for him.  I think it's urgent.
