Relocation with child

Question Details:My dissolution of marriage will be final next month by default because my husband has not responded to the court. We have 1 child together. My husband is currently incarcerated in CA pending trial and facing 15+ years and I currently do not recieve any support from him. I am planning to move to TX for a better job in the next 4-5 months. I am wondering if I can request to relocate at the time of the final hearing when they will determine allocation of parental responsibilities or if I need a seperate hearing. If it can be done at once, what info does the court normally require for relocation?

I think it makes sense for you to go ahead and request that at the final hearing.

I'd suggest that you prepare for this aspect of the hearing, to be able to explain why your job prospects are better in Texas than in California; if you can get your job search started and have something a bit more concrete by the time of the hearing, that would be even better.  You should also be specific about where in Texas you want to move, and have information about the schools and cost of living there.  If you have extended family or friends there, this will also help your case.
