Question Details:My husband was recently injured by a hotel fence because it was broken and not fixed. Medical costs were around $1500 including the missed days' wages. What is an acceptable compensation amount from the hotel's insurance? I don't want to get ripped off; there was pain and suffering.
I agree with the postings of the first attorney.

Pain and suffering is very subjective, so it's difficult to make a firm estimate. Assuming as you say there was some significant pain and suffering, probably $2,000 to $3,000 total (so an extra $500 to $1,500) would be reasonable to ask for.
If's there's permanent disability however, the number could be significantly higher and you would definitely want an attorney to represent you against the hotel and its insurer (if you don't have one already).
Expect pushback on this though--the insurer may not want to give extra cash for pain and suffering, especially if there is no permanent disability. You may have to fight for it, and it's not a given that at the end of the day they'll pay.
Note that if this is a hotel chain (so there are locations everywhere) or it's a standalone hotel that you commonly use, once your medical and lost wages are covered, you may consider taking additional compensation as free stays--it's cheaper to them, but if you'd get use out of it, as good as cash to you.
