John is a member of the King County Collaborative Law Association, the King County Bar Association, Committee on Judiciary and the Courts, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), the American Bar Association Family Law Section, the Washington State Bar Association Family Section, and the Subcommittee on the Uniform Partnership Act.

John's work is published annually as the update to the Washington section of "The Limited Liability Company" by Whynott & Bagley. He has authored and presented "A Comparison of Product Safety Law and Liability Prevention in the United States and Europe (1990)" to the Symposium on Harmonization of European Laws in Washington, D.C., and he directed the 1990 supplement to Product Liability: Design and Manufacturing Defects by Lewis F. Bass (McGraw-Hill).

Educated at San Jose State University, John received his Bachelor of Science-Administration of Justice (with distinction) in 1976, and his Master of Public Administration in 1978. John received his Juris Doctor (JD) in 1982 from Lincoln University School of Law, San Francisco California.
