Can I sue an insurance company for denying a valid claim?

Question Details: I applied for coverage with their supplemental insurance company 5 months ago. My coverage took effect 4 months ago and a week later I had an MRI and X-rays which resulted in my needing surgery. My claim was denied as pre-existing because I saw a doctor the previous month for neck pain.
