Can I be forced to become a temp for or leave my current job?

Question Details: I have been working on-site at a company through a staffing agency. I was told this is a 2 year contract that renews every 6 months. I have been on the current assignment for the past 17 with no issues. However, the other day I was informed that the company I have been working for has selected a "preferred" staffing agency to work exclusively with. I was told today that I have to become an employee of the "preferred" staffing agency by tomorrow or I no longer have a job. I don't understand how this is legal. I want to know how this will affect my ability to collect UC benefits if after becoming an employee of the "preferred" staffing agency I am fired and they replace me with one of their employees? I have been on site working for the same company for over a year, however technically if I am forced to start working under a new staffing agency does this affect my ability to collect if i am fired since I will not have 3 months in with new "preferred" agency. How is this legal?
