What to do if I was arrested for a Class B misdemeanor theft charge a couple days ago?

Question Details: I have no previous criminal history. I do not want this going on my record and hope it will get expunged. The thing is I do not really have money to spend on a lawyer. Are my chances of being able to get it expunged with a court appointed lawyer decent? I have friends who have gotten in trouble with the law and they tell me not to waste my money on a lawyer for a Class B misdemeanor. Basically, do you think a court appointed lawyer will be able to help me out. Considering I have no criminal history, hopefully they should be able to do something for me right?
